I am currently an independent consultant focused on the design of emotional product, service and systems for the automotive and mobility industries. An interest in the broader view of the business (particularly portfolio strategy, connectivity and mobility service design), evolution of culture and process towards User Experience and an opportunity to contribute to a more diverse range of projects led me to form Movotiv. It is a company born of my desire to accelerate progress and disruption in the automotive and mobility spaces and I bring deep experience, an action-oriented mindset and a strong point-of-view to the table.
Prior to that, I served as the Global Director of UX - Interaction & Ergonomics (including Human Machine Interface) at Ford Motor Company. My team was part of the User Experience Team and guides the design and development of physical and digital interior and exterior Interactive Experiences for all Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Through the synthesis of emerging technologies, consumer understanding, evolving business and brand strategies and thoughtful physical and digital design, we ensured that consumer interaction with Ford vehicles is easy, clear in use, smart, meaningful and safe.
Prior to joining Ford, I held the position of Global Director of Design Strategy and Research at Motorola Mobility. My experiential focus spanned diverse digital topics including navigation, information structure, as well as domains including messaging, music, multimedia, productivity, social media, contextual awareness, browsing, web services and more. My team also resolved physical topics like fit in hand, optimization of input and sensor usage. During that time, I also led the definition and conceptual development of Motorola’s next-gen portfolio of products and services - the results of which are still being introduced and delivered today through the world’s premier telecom carriers.
Earlier in my career, I served as a Global Design Adviser to Samsung, built and managed Experience Planning teams within the Advertising and Marketing space and co-founded and operated the industry’s first user experience firm, HannaHodge. I enjoy the vitality of teaching, coaching and lecturing at Design and Business schools and workshops throughout the world.
The constant throughout my career has been an interest in “what is”, “what could be” and “what if” in the context of consumer research, technology, design and innovation. My success is defined and measured by realizing opportunities, sparking talented cross-functional teams, and delivering products and services that impact and drive brand and revenue growth. And occasionally, this work becomes that standard for a new type of interaction.
I have a Masters of Design from the University of Cincinnati, a bachelor’s of Industrial Design from Auburn University and a handful of patents and industry awards.
